I Am An International Baccalaureate.

Crack open the bubbly! {Sparkling Apple Cider of course!}
I Am An International Baccalaureate. I worked so hard for that title. Was it worth it? I'm not sure. But there was something satisfying in {after having to download Firefox because IB doesn't use Safari} logging on and seeing "Diploma Awarded." I could't stop shaking and I was laughing but not a deep in my stomach, happy laugh. A hysteric, "thank god that's over" laugh. Even though I was admitted into the University of Texas at Austin in January, and I have been out of school for over a month {and I graduated with a high school diploma} it hadn't seemed over until 10:48am, Sunday, July 6th. I am so thrilled to be done with IB, and I would highly suggest you seriously consider what you will put yourself through if you decide to do the program. At UT hardly anyone I know did IB. But maybe I got in {only 7% of UT's student body is out of state} because I did IB, I'll never know. But what I do know is that high school is really over, and I couldn't be more relieved-xoxo darling, Hayden.

Week Re-Cap

I cannot believe it is already hump day and my time in the Fort is getting shorter by the minute {cue breathing exercises!}. This past week was crazy, but incredibly fun. I had a wonderful time in Colorado/Wyoming {keep an eye out for those photos in the coming weeks}, and now I will be enjoying lots of meals with friends before I leave for Camp Texas. And I think we're making banana pudding which makes me incredibly happy! What are you up to? -xoxo darling, Hayden

We stopped at Rene's before our flight; their carrot cake is to die for.

I got state number 37! Thanks Wyoming!

Coming back into Colorado, we'd never taken a picture with the Colorado sign.

Thanks to the Broadmoor I am now obsessed with San Pellegrino Limonata

Breakfast on the West Terrace @the Broadmoor

Some amazing yard art in Colorado Springs.

Breakfast @ The Original Pancake House {Feat. The Wall Street Journal}

Father/Daughter Selfie before our flight home.

 Plane ride home featuring a Winston Churchill article in the WSJ.

I've only had the window seat about 5 times in my life, and this was a good one.

Netflix: Obsessed {Part 5}

Welcome to part 5 of my Netflix journey! Can you tell I am, slightly, obsessed with Colin Firth movies?-xoxo darling, Hayden.
Mansfield Park

This was a good adaptation of Jane Austen's novel. However, it lagged in places and you know the ending from the beginning. But I liked Frances O'Connor and her witty sense of humor. It is a good film to watch on a lazy Sunday morning when you have nothing else going on, and you're a little desperate.
Pineapples:

Gambit

Gambit was an interesting movie for me. Some parts of it I was rolling around on my couch for, others parts I was looking at my phone because I was bored. Honestly, the movie takes a little too much time to get started. But it does have a surprising twist at the end. So if you get bored and have only a few options left, go for this.

Texas Sheet Cake

Once you decide to go to UT you should bake a Texas Sheet Cake…right? Well it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. And let me tell you, this is some of the best chocolate cake I have ever had. Baking a sheet cake {a whole cake for that matter} was a little different for me. And adding a cup of straight Coca Cola was also a little weird, but the result? Delicioso-xoxo darling, Hayden.
P.S.
A recipe similar to the one we used is here. We did not add nuts to our icing.

Quotes of the Week

Happy Monday! I am finally rested from my trip to Colorado, we got in at midnight on Sunday. The photos from the trip will be coming in the next few weeks. Aside from that I am looking forward to lots of lunches, dinners, and coffee outings with my friends before I head off to Austin...it's a little over two weeks away! In the meantime, here are some quotes for your Monday morning-xoxo darling, Hayden.

Obsessed

As y'all know I am a huge fan of IMDB, Netflix, and You Tube. One of my all time favorite channels is Emma Approved by Pemberley Digital. It makes me so happy! The series is based on Emma by Jane Austen and the videos are set in modern day. Emma runs a matchmaking/do good/party planning firm where Knightley is her finance officer and Harriet is her assistant. The rest of Austen's characters make appearances from time to time as well. The series is not yet complete but it gives me something to look forward to once/twice a week {especially if I get behind!}. Check out the first episode below and let me know if you get hooked too!-xoxo darling, Hayden

Obsessed

I get obsessed with things easily...Netflix, sweaters, basically anything. But for about two years I have been obsessed with watching newly released trailers on IMDB. I will watch them whenever I have time & they are super convenient because I have the app. I don't even want to see half of the movies but I will watch the trailers {except horror trailers, I don't do those}. I'm not sure exactly when or why the obsession started, but it is ever present.
Because of the obsession I find out about movies I would have never known about. For example, I recently watched the trailer below, fell in love, and then found out they might not even release it in the U.S. {this is a quick shout out to Netflix, PLEASE GET THIS FILM!}
If you don't already have the IMDB app, I would highly suggest it. Not only can you prove your family wrong when answering questions about who was in what movie, or what a certain movie was called, but you can also have a distraction from whatever you're avoiding. Plus, it is a sort of intelligent way of distracting yourself because you can watch foreign movie trailers, documentary trailers, etc.
Is anyone else just as obsessed as I am? -xoxo darling, Hayden

Netflix: Obsession {Part 4}

Welcome to part 4 of my journey through Netflix-xoxo darling, Hayden.
First Night

I want to watch this film again. It is so cute and perfect. I mean how can you not like a film set in the English countryside about an Opera?! Plus Julian Ovenden is one of the main stars {and that is always a plus}. Yes, it is predictable, but in a good way. You begin to root for the characters to end up with one another or end up getting the opera career of their dreams. It is a great way to spend a car ride home {which is when I watched it...for the first time}.
Pineapples:

The Decoy Bride
I love Kelly Macdonald....mainly because her voice is amazing. But this film was pretty terrible from the beginning. David Tennant's character was so unlikeable I didn't want Macdonald's character to end up with him. Scotland and Macdonald's voice might be the only good things about this film.
Pineapples:
What Rats Won't Do
This was cute...sort of. I liked James Frain and the chemistry between the two main characters. However, it seemed to lag and was very predictable. There was something about it that I found myself skipping parts so I could get to the good parts with chemistry. But it is a nice distraction from whatever project you should be doing but aren't feeling at the moment.

Laptop Decals

Following lots of bloggers means lots of inspiration. That was where I got the ideas for my decals from. I love monograms and I have a ton of school spirit. Below is what my Macbook looks like now:

Parfum

Pefume is one of those weird things. I love to wear it, but I don't know much about it. I feel like thats how it is with most women {unless I'm wrong?}. So below are my three favorites, except I am about out of my Ferragamo and I would love some new suggestions, I want something new-xoxo darling, Hayden.
The Traditional:

This was my moms, but I stole it from her because she never uses it, and it's Chanel, Chanel. I only use it for seriously special occasions.
 The Signature:

Chance is my favorite scent in the whole world. It is my signature sent and I cannot part with it. That being said, it is expensive and it was a gift and I am trying to make it last, so I don't wear it everyday.
 The Everyday:

I got this for Christmas and I love Ferragamo, so I wear it almost like deodorant. One spritz and that's it, whenever I'm not wearing Chance. It smells pretty good and I know I should never leave the house without it {a la Coco Chanel}, so this fits that need. However I need a suggestion to replace it! Let me know in the comments what you would suggest!

Girl Power

I've been listening to iTunes radio quite a bit & looking up You Tube videos for Iggy...don't ask...and I have come across three very distinct, very different videos, all three of which you should check out, find them below-xoxo darling, Hayden.
I was listening to iTunes radio while cleaning my room and I came across this song, BO$$ by Fifth Harmony. It isn't my typical song, but there is something about it I love. I've since listened to it a billion times and I can't stop. The message is awesome! They tell you to use common-sense, be confident, and they ask for respect. It is a great message in the era of girls having no self-respect. This song wants you to Pledge Allegiance to the Independent Girls. It is awesome, and I hope you think so too!
I have also been hearing All About That Base lately and I find the message amazing as well. She sings about how no one can be the perfect model, even models are photoshopped. She might not be a Size Two, but that's okay. She even calls out the fashion industry asking them to stop photoshopping women because it is clear that isn't what they really look like. They turn them into silicone barbie dolls and that isn't what real women look like. She also sends a shout  out to women everywhere that if a man wants the Barbie he can walk away. It is very powerful and I love it so much!
This video isn't a music video but it has a seriously powerful message. And it is kind of funny because after watching it I started noticing how often I said I was sorry for things I shouldn't have apologized for. Both Pantene & Always have started making commercials for girls/women and I think it is awesome. We shouldn't have to apologize for asking a question or taking up an armrest. We have just as much of a right to it as anyone else. Check it out:

School Spirit

In high school I never had a ton of school spirit. I always felt like my school focused way to much on overrated athletics and didn't highlight the things our school was actually good at. However, I have always had serious school spirit for colleges. The list of teams I love out ways the teams I hate.
But now I have pledged my true allegiance to one school...and that school's colors are incredibly difficult to wear a lot of. But that is where Jack Rogers come in!
For my graduation present I was given a pair of UT colored Jack Rogers and I cannot tell you how often I wear them. Not only are they incredibly conformable, preppy, and cute, but they give me a way to show my school spirit even when I'm not wearing a burnt orange t-shirt with Texas written across in giant, capital, block letters.
The college color line Jack Rogers has is amazing & I'm pretty sure you can find your school's color combo, check it out! -xoxo darling, Hayden
P.S. If you are in a sorority, they also make sorority colored ones {here}!

My Texas Jacks are amazing.

Post High School Resume

So you got a high school diploma...now what? You were so involved in high school, you were a member of Student Government, you played softball, and you were a straight A student. You got to put all of that on your college application but where else is it useful?
Your resume of course!
I put my most important info on a professional, yet very me, resume. I needed one for recruitment {sorority girl right here} but I am also planning to use it for possible job applications and anything else that might come my way.
Resumes are easy to make and if you find {Microsoft Word has them for free} or buy {Etsy has some super cute ones} a template you'll look extremely professional.
Below is a screen shot of mine, have any questions? Let me know-xoxo darling, Hayden

Pick one of your favorite colors and make sure it is presentable! I loved the monogram addition to the right hand corner because it is very me!

Week Re-Cap

It has been a very interesting week. I have done lots of outdoor projects with my family, hung out with two of my amazing friends, and I am so looking forward to the weekend! How was your week?

 Thanks to this month's issue of Consumer Reports, my dad & I tried a new pizza place and were pleasantly surprised.

Netflix: Obsessed {Part 3}

Welcome to part three of my Netflix series. Below are the three latest films I checked out in the romantic section-xoxo darling, Hayden.
Band Baaja Baaraat

Let me stop right now and tell you that I love Bollywood. Therefore, I will probably watch a lot of it in this series. I really liked most parts of this movie. It was a little long, but that was okay. I hated the part where the two agencies split off, it was boring and lagged a little bit. The film itself was very predictable but the colors were beautiful, the dancing was AMAZING, and the clothing was gorgeous. The female star was gorgeous and the whole movie was adorable.
Pineapples:

What A Man

This was a cute German film about a guy who needs to get over his terrible girlfriend. He finally realizes he loves his best friend and chops down a tree {it will make sense if you watch it!}. Overall it is precious and very predictable.
Pineapples:

Populaire

LOVED LOVED LOVED. Not sure if that's because I am a francophile or because it was actually a good film. Whatever, the main star looks almost exactly like Audrey Hepburn, it is set in the 60s, there is typewriting involved, and the star ends up with her coach {awkward practicing sessions after that!}. However, it was very predictable {so be prepared to assume what will happen and be right}. It was cute and sweet. Plus it was a good way to spend my Friday night.

Best Friend Gifts

I adore buying gifts for people. Like you don't even know, I love getting them for other people more than I love getting them myself.
That being said, some people are harder to shop for than others. Specifically my BFF. We don't spend a ton of time together {we have a strange BFF relationship} so I don't always know what her style is at the moment.

Finding The Perfect Roomie

In movies girls have the prefect roommate. They are in their wedding, they go shopping with them, they talk to them everyday. So how do you find one of these magical people? Is it even possible?
To be honest, I am not sure. It took me months to find Devi {seriously}. Even after I found her I was super worried we wouldn't get along in person. I was terrified that we would end up hating each other and I would never want to spend time in my dorm room.
But sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and just go for it. So I did, I saw Devi's message on the UT Facebook page and I personal messaged her and bam we struck up a conversation. A month later she popped the question {that's the thing about looking for a roommate, it is a lot like speed dating}, and I said yes, on one condition, we had to meet before just to make sure we really could get along in person. So we stopped Facebook messaging {because Facebook can get annoying} and started texting...almost every day. It was so much fun! We learned so much about each other!
Then the night before orientation, two very nervous girls sat in the parking lot {with their parents wondering if they would ever get out of their cars} wondering if they were in fact making the right decision. But those two girls emerged, walked into The Shady Grove, and never looked back.
Devi is awesome, I am so happy I found her. We are similar {but not too similar}, we like Bollywood, we like trying new foods, and we are both very excited to hang out even more in the Fall.
Would it have been so bad to do random? Probably not, but I am so happy I scoured the UT Facebook page and found Devi.
So what is the take away?
Actually look. Don't give up if you can't find someone on the first try. I messaged countless people before I messaged Devi. Also, if it works it works, if not it's okay. Devi and I clicked, it was only a little awkward. Our conversations flowed unlike anyone else I had messaged. Try, that's all I ask, and let me know if you find your roommate in a similar way-xoxo darling, Hayden.
