61 in 1001 Update

Since July I've gone from 6 completed to 12 completed...so I think we're doing well! Plus, a ton of my goals have to do with travel so I think we're killing it for being in a global pandemic. Below I'm talking about what I've done in the last two months, what I'm currently working on and what I want to get done before the next update. Have you made a 101 in 1001? How are you doing on it? — xoxo darling, Hayden.

Completed

3. Try 50 new restaurants.
One thing about the pandemic I've actually kind of (secretly, until now) enjoyed is that almost every restaurant has adapted to doing takeaway. And as a person who doesn't like eating alone and loves the anonymity of picking food up and bringing it home to watch in front of a Real Housewives show...I'm into it. Plus, with less people on the roads I've been more willing to drive downtown just to get food. My recent favorites include: Spanky's Roadhouse, Smith+Canon Ice Cream, Cherry Hills Sushi & Konjo Ethiopian.

6. Try 3 new cocktails.
So, I didn't write them down but as I make cocktails on my TikTok and there are 170+ now...I would say I've completed this bad boy.

11. Try 20 new breweries.
I'm honestly surprised I got this one done so quickly, but a trip to NC with my parents really helped. I've also found some friends in Denver that enjoy the beer scene (finally!) so I have a feeling I'll be visiting even more with them.

22. Bake a new cupcake flavor.
One day I opened my recipe book and just picked one at random — pink champagne. They turned out really well, like you could actually taste the champagne, which I was impressed by!

27. Treat myself to a spa day.
After talking to one of my friends about her spa day I got the confidence to strap a mask on my face and lay down for a massage. And let me tell you, it was heaven. I usually get one for my birthday but because I was away and then the pandemic shut everything down I didn't get one. I know everyone feels differently right now, but if you feel comfortable I suggest going and don't forget to leave a big tip because spa workers are risking it all.

47. Go to a drive-in movie.
Julia and I did this and it was great! And kind of perfect for a pandemic because you stay in your car 6+ feet away from everyone. I even did a write up on the theater we went to here

Currently Working On

1. Read 100 books.
I love reading. But I go through these phases where the last thing I want to do is pick up a book and I've been in this current phase for quite a long time. I'm halfway through a book and it's just sitting on the floor by my bed looking lonely. I think this phase was brought on by the book not being as exciting or as interesting as I thought it would be. But I also know it could get really good and I'm missing out! I am participating in a book club where we are reading this book in October so I'll start that on Thursday.

18. Watch 3 more foreign films.
I just need to sit down and watch the final movie...any recommendations?

36. Cook 10 new recipes.
I've recently been making things, which I'm proud of! The breakfast grilled cheese has probably been my favorite but I'm going to make a potato dish with burrata that I'm pretty hyped about later on this week.

38. Work on a campaign.
At the moment I'm working on a few different campaigns, mainly those in which a swing state senator seat is up. It's hard not to feel helpless right now with everything going on in our government but by helping out on these I feel like I'm making a difference — even if it's small.

Up Next

31. Throw 3 more parties.
But Hayden, how can you throw a party in a time like this!? Fair, but it's going to be tiny and everyone has been being cautious in my life. And you know what, I love throwing parties and it makes me so sad that I haven't gotten to do so since early February. I'm throwing a lil Halloween shindig that should be fun.

32. Re-read all of the Harry Potter books.
This seems like a great fall activity, right? I need to request them from the library asap.

43. Vote in the 2020 election.

56. Bake bread.
I got my hands on yeast so I think it's going to be time. I'm thinking focaccia because it's one of my all-time favorite breads.

58. Donate to Planned Parenthood.
This should be easy. And if you're a woman or a man that cares at all about women, donate too

Coziest Fall Movies & TV Shows

I thought I'd do a round-up of my favorite movies and tv shows to watch each fall since it's my favorite season — xoxo darling, Hayden.

TV Shows

Gilmore Girls

Can we all agree GG is the most classic autumn tv show? I've always wanted to walk through Stars Hollow during fall with all their corn stalks, hay bales, pumpkins and falling leaves. The official drink of the show is coffee, which is the perfect fall drink. Each October when the weather starts getting cooler I like to sit by my open window in a sweatshirt with a cup of coffee watching some of my favorite episodes.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

I like to savor this show and watch it as we get closer to Halloween. It's so dark, creepy and absurd! The costumes are amazing and I desperately want to dress like Sabrina. I want it to be a dark stormy night so that I can walk to a diner and drink a milkshake like they do in the show. Maybe one year I'll decorate my house like the show...

Nancy Drew

I've always been obsessed with ND, since I was a kid. I read all of the books at least once (this one was always my favorite) and I will say I was very apprehensive about the show. And I was right to be! The show is completely different than the books but in a good way. It's much darker, the stereotypes aren't as awful and it just feels like a cold night in a seaside town.

Sleepy Hollow (Season 1)

This show is creepy but the first season slaps. The guy who plays Ichabod Crane is pretty hot and I love the actress that plays his partner. For those of you that don't know anything about it, Ichabod Crane is a guy from the Revolutionary War period who comes back to life in the 2010s. He meets up with a cop who later becomes his partner. He refuses to dress in modern clothes and they slowly start to solve mysteries (including banishing a headless horseman).

The Vampire Diaries

A TikTok favorite, VD is a fall aesthetic overall. The way they dress, the diary writing, the looking longingly out a window — FALL. Plus, everyone is hot and it takes you back to middle school/high school depending on when you were born. I think I will always be a Stefan fan...but I do love Damon.

Scream Queens

Every time I see this show I'm amazed with how much I love it (both seasons). First off, the costuming is downright iconic. Second off, I just love how hate-able the characters are. Obviously they were written that way and it's just amazing. Jamie Lee Curtis is iconic as is Emma Roberts.

Stranger Things

This one of course had to make the list as it includes fall in the midwest, monsters and the 80s (which might be cozy to some and spooky for others). Every season that we get I'm worried it will have jumped the shark but thank god it hasn't (and thank god Hopper is alive).

Movies

Practical Magic

I just rewatched this movie and it is perfectly magical. I have convinced Julia & Hannah to go on a Washington/Oregon roadtrip mainly because of this movie. It's set in a little waterside town on an island and it just feels like fall. You'll want to wrap up in a cardigan, cut your bangs like Sandra Bullock and jump off a roof with your broom.

Harry Potter Films

Oh come on, obviously! The first–third movies when they eat in the dining hall, that feels like the epitome of autumn to me. Plus, they involve wizards & witches, scary guys, spells, cauldrons and weird potions! It's the most Halloween/fall thing you could ever have.

Hocus Pocus

Ugh, I adore this one. I watched it for the first time last Halloween and kind of fell in love. This is what made me want to go to Salem (not the history or the witch trials, a movie). Sarah Jessica Parker just kills me and when I was a kid everyone told me I looked like the little girl. I recommend making a Halloween charcuterie board and sitting down to watch this on a blustery night.

Ghostbusters

Whatever version you prefer, my favorite is the classic, this screams spoopy season. It's not too scary and there's something incredibly nostalgic about it. Kind of makes you want to scream "Ghostbusters" for about a week after though...

Halloweentown

If you were born in the late 90s/early 2000s this might be your Halloween bible. We fell in love with Marnie, her cooky grandma and overbearing mom and the amazing town (St. Helens, OR). I will say the first one is the best but I have a soft spot for Halloween Town High for some strange reason.

Twitches & Twitches Too

Serena and I were talking about how much we love these films. Like, objectively they should be terrible because they are 2000s DCOM movies but every time I watch one I love the experience. These two movies are something I look forward to each October. I love the mom and dad of Camryn so much!

Casper Meets Wendy

A cute, sweet film from my childhood that I haven't seen in years but I think it's adorable in general. Plus, it has one of my first childhood crushes in it! Also, a tiny Hilary Duff!

The Witches

I was a huge Ronald Dahl reader as a kid and The Witches is one of my favorites then I saw the movie and was terrified. Like, you have to be ready for the scene when they take off their wigs/face masks/clothes because it is insane. Angelica Houston is a true star though and if you follow Mark Ferris, he can recite every line of the film.

Scream

Horror movies are not my speed. At all. But Scream gets me. I think it's because the whole movie is a send-up of the scary movie world. Plus, depending on which film your watching the clothes can be terrible or amazing. I like doing watch party of 1–4 in one day just to get in the spooky mood. Which is your favorite?

Phantom of the Megaplex

An absolute DCOM classic for both Halloween and just nostalgia purposes. It's set in a movie theater (ha! remember going to those?) and the main characters are downright adorable. Plus, it shows the difficulties of working your first job and was s.c.a.r.y. when I was a kid.

Legally Blonde

Okay, this doesn't fit in with the Halloween movies but there is something inherent about this movie being fall. From Elle's Playboy costume to the leaves changing on Harvard's campus it just screams the start of the school year and autumn. Plus, from a female empowerment standpoint, November = fall and fall = elections. REGISTER TO VOTE & VOTE FOR BIDEN!

Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire

Remember the dad from The Nanny? He's the vampire in this movie! I love how absurd this film is. You will never be scared but instead will be rooting for the kids the whole time. The part in the grocery store kills me!

Week Re-Cap

Rest in Power RBG.
Happy Wednesday! It has been quite the week. In good and bad ways. We lost one of the greatest feminists ever and I've been feeling a bit helpless when it comes to the election/government. I started writing letters & postcards and of course I've called all the senators multiple times telling them not to accept a Supreme Court nominee. Aside from that I've gotten to try some good new food spots and spent some quality time with friends. The week ahead brings more eating, a happy hour & a watch party. What are y'all up to? — xoxo darling, Hayden
The Winter Love magazine arrived!
Got to attend the opening of the new Choice Market on East Colfax.
Smith + Canon's Chupacabra is one of the best Mexican chocolate ice creams I've ever had.
Picked up some pre-made meals from Porch Light.
The fall leaves are coming!
I watched Practical Magic and decorated my apartment for fall.
Sunday's socially-distanced brunch at The Greenbriar Inn in north Boulder.
We started with the pastry basket...
...had some lemon ricotta pancakes...
...and finished with the dessert for two platter.
Sunday afternoon we went to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, where RBG fought one of her first gender discrimination cases to pay tribute to the icon.

First Day of Fall + Vlog

Happy First Day of Fall y'all! Over the last two weeks I've been getting back into vlogging because I miss it! I just haven't felt inspired during quarantine, but now I'm back and better than ever! In this one we go farming, decorate for fall and more — xoxo darling, Hayden

Week Re-Cap

A Sunday journey to the farm with these three lovely ladies.
Happy Wednesday! What a week it has been. We went all-out farming on Sunday...we were not prepared at all and I feel like I've been recovering from it ever since. We also celebrated my roommates birthday at the "beach" and I tried some new restaurants/dishes. There aren't a ton of plans for the rest of the week, except there might be a Princess Diaries watch party this weekend. What are y'all up to? — xoxo darling, Hayden
Fall is really trying to get here.
Celebrated my roommate's birthday at Chatfield State Park.
Went farming at Miller Farms.
Had brunch at Doug's Diner.
Got some apples from Adam's Apple Orchard.
Tried some new dishes at MeetFresh.

Breakfast Grilled Cheese Recipe

Breakfast Grilled Cheese
Okay this is one of the best things I've ever created! I made it on the snow day Tuesday and it was just the coziest sandwich. I was inspired by Half Baked Harvest but switched it up a bit with hot sauce. Let me know if you make this — xoxo darling, Hayden.
Breakfast Grilled Cheese Recipe
-3 tablespoons of butter
-2 slices of sourdough bread
-2 eggs
-1/4 cup shredded cheese
-1 tablespoon honey
-hot sauce, as desired
Instructions:
1. Melt 1 tbsp. of butter in your skillet.
2. Whisk eggs thoroughly and scramble them to your liking.
3. Once eggs are cooked remove them from the pan and place them on one side of your bread, add cheese, hot sauce and honey on top of the eggs.
4. Melt 1 tbsp. of butter in your skillet.
5. Place the other side of bread on your sandwich and put it in the skillet and cook one side of the bread to your desire.
6. Add 1 tbsp. of butter in your skillet, flip the sandwich and cook the other side.
7. Once cooked to your desired burnt-ness, take out of the pan, drizzle with honey and serve immediately.
