Happy Halloween + Week Re-Cap

Halloween Funfetti Cupcakes
Happy Halloween lovelies! I hope your day is spooky or spoopy, whatever you would prefer.
This week has been pretty good! Most of the photos in this post are food, so I hope you aren't hungry...if so, I'm sorry! But mainly I just ate various meals with people...so yeah. Yesterday's trip to the dentist went super well. My cavity has been fixed and I feel like a new person...with slightly sore jaws.
I'm headed to Austin this weekend to meet my dad for the WVU game...hopefully we'll win...and to eat all of our favorite foods/drink beer. Hope your week is going well - xoxo darling, Hayden.

Green Blue Pumpkin

Oooo I love this outfit and I love these photos. A huge shout out to my little, Julia for being an absolute trooper and taking them for me. The sweater is one of the softest things I've ever owned from H&M, the jeans are old, the boots are old and the vest is Crown & Ivy. We took them at Happy Apple Farm in Penrose, Colorado where we ate apple cider donuts, bought some pumpkins and just had an all around blast. Fall is my absolute favorite season so I loved taking in every moment. What do y'all think? - xoxo darling, Hayden
P.S. I'm headed to the dentist this afternoon to deal with a cavity and I'm kind of terrified. Wish me luck!

Quotes of the Week

Happy Monday lovelies. This weekend was amazing because I just took it easy. Lots of laying in bed, resting, watching TV and hanging with friends. Unfortunately, Texas lost which dampened my happy feelings but oh, well, you win some you lose some. I started Sabrina on Netflix and I like it a lot, although I will miss the old Sabrina and the old Salem. Also, started The Romanoffs and I love it! I'm finishing up my "She Caused a Riot" book this week and then I'm off to Austin for the WVU game with my dad. This week I've got a ton of other things - a teleconference about facebook, a dentist appointment (I have a cavity), a date and I'm hanging out with my friends. What are y'all up to? - xoxo darling, Hayden

What I've Been Watching

Let me preface this by saying, I've watched a lot more than these things in the last however many months. However, it got out of hand and I didn't have time to write a 10 page document on all of it. So here are some highlights. Also, I will be doing better about my list/posting so they aren't as long and intimidating in the future. But without further ado, here is a list of what I've watched recently - xoxo darling, Hayden.

Hap & Leonard: The Two Bear Mambo

My parents first introduced me to Hap & Leonard about a year ago. When this season came out I was looking forward to it because the show is set in the 1980s in East Texas with a white conscientious objector and a African American gay man who fought. So already, there are going to be some challenges. But it gets better! The show is a mystery that features tons of crazy Texans and it really challenges you to think about racism. At one point Hap (the white guy) is talking to some racist men and says, “You just want to hate someone.” Implying that it wouldn’t matter who it was they just need to hate someone to feel better about themselves. Just watch it! It’s super entertaining, funny and challenging. We love it.

Chef’s Table

One of my good friends who might be more obsessed with food than I am introduced me to Chef’s Table. And I’m not the biggest fan of certain episodes but I was glued to the dessert season. Christina Tosi is one of my favorite people on this planet and learning about her through CT was a glorious experience. She is an inspiration to women (really everybody) everywhere that you don’t have to make baking/cooking complicated. As long as you make something well and are innovative you can succeed. She doesn’t need a green tea foam reduction to have success – she has cereal milk ice cream.

Secrets of Underground London

As part of my 101 in 1001 I have been attempting to watch more documentaries. And being obsessed with London, I thought, why not? And you know what? This is pretty fascinating. It’s less than an hour and you will learn so much about the random stuff that goes on under the city of London. For example, where they stashed art during WWII and a few more creepy things. Would recommend.

Gaga: Five Foot Two

Another documentary, but one I had been planning to watch for quite some time. Lady Gaga has always been one of my favorite artists, my high school best friend’s older sister introduced me to her when I was a freshman and I have been a lover ever since. Her songs, music videos and fashion choices have always inspired me to be me. This documentary shows the struggles she is having that the general public doesn’t even know. And you get to see her be “real” throughout the whole thing, which I loved.

Superstore

I’ve been watching Superstore for some time now and I just love it. The show is so well written and just downright hilarious most episodes. I can’t even name a favorite character because it’s just such a cast. In case you don’t know, it centers on the employees of a discount store – think Walmart but not that size. They even wear the little vests. America Ferrera is the major star but everyone in it is wonderful.

Timeless

Oh my, this is one of those guilty pleasure shows for my dad and I. Like it is not good…but we can’t stop watching? I started it a few seasons in because that’s where he was and it isn’t a hard concept to follow. I mainly tune in for the period costumes but it is a fun one if you are bored and need to watch something fairly unbelievable.

Blackkklansmen

When I first saw the trailer for this movie I was so bought in. I loved the idea, then come to find out, it’s a true story. All of that means I had to go see it on opening weekend. And it did not disappoint. The movie is poignant, funny, timely, serious, tragic, challenging and more. I cried, laughed and felt distraught by some of the finer points. I feel everyone should see this film so they can better understand the world we live in and for the laughs. In case you’ve been living under a rock, it centers around an African American cop in Colorado Springs who infiltrates the KKK. Spike Lee directs and there are clips at the end of the Charlottesville tragedy – the movie came out on the one-year anniversary. Seriously, go see it.

Balanced Rock

Okay, this look is one of my all time favorite's for fall. Plus, we shot it at Garden of the Gods, one of my all time favorite places in Colorado. The sweater is a man's...oooo...ahh...but y'all it is one of the softest things I've ever purchased. I got it on sale (it was $88) for $18 !! Go to the Brooks Brothers outlets y'all, you will score! The vest is old, I couldn't find a woman's version. It's fleece and super comfy. But be warned, it will come off on all of you clothes, I cannot make it stop! The bean boots, jeans and camp socks are all old but gosh are they comfy. My hat is from a St. Patrick's Day collection from the UT Co-Op but here is a similar version. What do y'all think of the look? I plan to wear it all the time - xoxo darling, Hayden.

How to Make a Gallery Wall

Since I moved into a new apartment (rip my Austin apartment, I will always love you) it was time to make a new gallery wall. And this is one of the questions I get the most - how did you do it? And you know what, it's suuuuuper easy. Basically you go on Etsy, find some instant download prints, print them out, buy some core board & spray mount, mount the prints to the core board, choose a wall, buy some painters tape and command strips, and stick them up! It's very easy, I filmed a video below that really shows the process below. And there are also links to where I got the prints & supplies. Let me know if you still have questions - xoxo darling, Hayden.

How to Make Friends in a New City

Moving to a new city at any time in your life is a challenge. However, when you are first out of college, moving away from all of your best friends it can be even harder. And since I just did that I thought I would share with y'all how I'm making new friends.
As a very social person, I knew when I moved to Denver I would have to put in a ton of effort to make new friends. I cannot survive without hanging out with people, talking and just being around other people that I know and love. So I created a plan long before I moved out here or even knew I was officially moving out here. First, I decided to join Bumble BFF, second was joining organizations and those are the two things I'll be giving advice on in this post. And please, share with me how you've made new friends in your respective cities because I am always looking for advice/new besties.

Bumble BFF

You may or may not know this but the dating app Bumble has two other components to it. The first is networking (yeah, I know), which I don't use and the second is BFF. This is a part of the app that let's you find friends in your area. You make a profile just like you would on the dating side but this is for you to find friends. Then you do the simple swipe right, swipe left, read through bios, look at their photos, etc. Personally, I think we are much better at choosing our friends than our potential significant others. Once you make a match, either of you can start talking and then who knows where it will take you. I've met two people on the app that I'm already really close with, plus, I'm still on the app looking for more friends. I'm sharing screenshots of my profile below so you know what it's like. And let me just say, saying you want to go apple picking/pumpkin patching is a huge help for getting matches. We ladies love that stuff, hahaha.

Organizations

My second step was looking into organizations to join. First, I researched my area to see if there was an alumni association chapter for my university and low and behold there was! I am now a proud member of the Rocky Mountain Texas Exes. If you live in a major city and went to a fairly large college there is a fairly large chance there will be an alumni chapter for you. The Exes here hold watch parties for our games and through those I met two wonderful gals I'm now really good friends with. One I share a mutual friend with, the other we had never heard of each other. But now we watch Love Island, eat Taco Bell and drink wine together. It's been wonderful.
Second, I joined a chapter of the American Association of University Women, which I was part of in college. My chapter is full of adorable older women whom I love. They've already got me helping with the state's facebook page and donating toiletries. It's been wonderful. This is a great org to get involved with if you a) have a college degree and b) care about women's rights. All of the women in the chapter are incredibly smart and are great for connections for your future. I would highly recommend, they have a lobby branch in D.C. that works toward getting equal pay for women (hopefully by 2030).
Third, I joined the Colorado League of Women Voters, another feminist centered organization. I had the help of some of my AAUW ladies to join and I'm trying to be very active. A lot of women just donate, which is amazing & fine, but I was dead set on actually helping with the effort. I'm planning to learn how to register people to vote and I'm going to work on their social media as well. The LWV is so important in every state so please think about joining. It's amazing.
Lastly, I plan on joining a few more groups but those I'm still deciding on. I would highly recommend MeetUp, it's a place where people can create organizations for almost anything. I'm thinking about joining a few of them but I might be at my time limit at the moment. Other than that I'm still doing my research. But if you live in Denver and have an org you think I'd love please reach out. Hope these tips help you - xoxo darling, Hayden.

Week Re-Cap

Margarita on Thursday with my friend Becky.
Oh what a week it was. I was so busy every day that last night after cleaning my apartment and making my gallery wall (photos coming soon) I just vegged out with some Taco Bell, wine, Real Housewives and my roomie. It was so needed. In this post there are tons of photos from my weekend in Texas. You can catch the vlog here. What are y'all up to? - xoxo, darling Hayden

My favorite spot in San Antonio, Mi Tierra, was our first
stop after I got off the plane.

 I'm drooling right now.

One of the strongest margaritas I've ever had.

 This cat is the cutest.

The cutest donut spot for delicious pillows of dough on Saturday morning.

Fair warning: they have incredibly strong coffee.

If you can vote in Texas, please vote for Beto. I love him so much.

Two besties geeking out at a campaign office.

 Via 313 - a favorite of Hannah and I's.

Love the view from the Co-Op parking garage.

Such a beautiful day but gosh was it hot.

Love my two Hannahs.

 Look at this beaut!

He poses so well.

My flight back to Denver went well, but it was S N O W I N G when I arrived home.

Quotes of the Week

Woah, it's already Monday darlings! It seems like the weekend went by incredibly quickly, however it was one of the best weekends yet. As y'all know I flew to San Antonio to visit my best friend & go to the Baylor game (we won and we're now bowl eligible!), you can see some photos on my instastory at the moment. This morning was rough waking up because getting home from the airport yesterday was a challenge, so I'm two cups of coffee in and let's be honest I'll probably drink more.
This week is exciting, I have a TON of errands to run, my friend is coming over tomorrow, I have a date on Wednesday and then one of my littles, Julia is coming to visit from Austin. We are going to do all of the fall activities.
What are y'all up to? - xoxo darling, Hayden

How to Deal with a Long-Distance Bestie

Since I am flying to see my best friend tonight, I thought this blog post was apropos.

When I met Hannah I had no idea we would become as close as we are today. We had both just gotten into Communication Council at Texas and rode in the same car to retreat. I thought she was sweet and funny but that was kind of it. Then she requested to interview me for her PR class about the blog/District. I was super honored. Then we went to Easter brunch and the rest is kind of history. After hanging out three or four times we decided she would come spend a week in Florida for the summer...that was how we knew. We continued to grow closer and closer. Survived her break-up, my stress-filled panics about organizations, so much school work, birthdays, graduations, travel, Europe, etc.
And I never thought our friendship would be hard. Because, it's always been so easy. But then I moved to Colorado and Hannah moved to San Antonio. And let me tell you, it's one of the hardest things I've ever done, emotionally. Being in another state with no easy access, not knowing when we'll see each other next is so flipping hard. We talk about it almost weekly, how much we miss each other and how difficult it is. And we cannot be the only best friends out there going through something like this - and if you and your bestie do this on the daily, please let me know how y'all do it. Hannah and I have our little routines that I thought I would share with you so if you have no idea how to be separate from "your person" maybe you can use our tips.
  1. Talk every day - This changes for us, but we somehow have a convo every single day. Whether it be sending long video messages on snapchat, texting, talking on the phone, or facetiming, we talk every day.
  2. Tag each other - Facebook has opened up the world for communication and that doesn't stop when your bestie moves away. Hannah and I are always tagging each other in things on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter that seem relevant. Just by mentioning them, makes your bond stronger.
  3. Facetime once a week - This is a huge one for us I think. While we talk every day, it's nice to set aside time to see the person and just talk about life while you aren't busy.
  4. Plan trips - This was a big one for us as well as we both love to travel and have done it so many times together in the past. As soon as I got the job in Denver we decided I would visit her for this upcoming weekend and she would come for New Years to Denver. And we even have a weekend on the books in December for a possible trip to see each other. Planning ahead for this stuff makes the waiting seem less awful.
  5. Be aware - It is so hard to know exactly what is going on in your bestie's life when you two don't see each other day in and day out. You might forget important life events and while understandable, you can amend it. If Hannah tells me she has a big thing coming up I try to make a note of it so I remember to send her a text or something to let her know she is in my thoughts. On her first day of classes I sent her Tiff's Treats, when I moved into my new apartment, she sent me a tea towel. It's those little things that help keep your relationship strong.
Hopefully these five tips encourage you to stay strong with your bestie, no matter the distance - xoxo darling, Hayden.

Week in My Life Vlog

What started as a weekend in my life vlog turned into a whole week because I just didn't think there was enough content on the weekend. So I hope you enjoy this video...it's a little boring but I think it really represents how the past few weeks have been in my life? If that makes sense. Also, I will be filming this weekend because...I'm meeting Hannah in San Antonio to go to the Baylor game and I am SO excited. We haven't seen each other since the summer so I'm sure there will be great clips...maybe a car Q&A? Who knows. Enjoy this vlog and let me know your thoughts - xoxo darling, Hayden.

Week Re-Cap

The sunset from the DMV parking lot. I now have a Colorado drivers license.
Oooohh, such a good week y'all. I got my Colorado drivers license, found the most amazing book, hung out with a bunch of friends, beat OU and now I get to meet my best friend in Austin to beat Baylor. I'm hyped. Other than that there hasn't been a whole lot going on. I've got some projects I'm working on at work, I'm trying to meet as many people as possible in Denver and I'm planning for my little, Julia, to come visit next week - we're going to do all of the fall things.
What have y'all been up to? - xoxo darling, Hayden

Finally tried Pumpkin O's...they are delicious
but not super pumpkin-y.

Reading this phenomenal book at the moment.
Seriously, everyone should read it.

Late night frozen custard at Andy's.

I love my parking lot at the office...so pretty!

WE BEAT OU! Also, love these girls!

My face in this shows my pure joy of beating OU.

Tried Dead Hippie brewery; we really liked it!

Just a usual night in the apartment. Drinking Rose, eating popcorn with candy corn,
watching Love Island.

Fall at Kenosha Pass

If you haven't already seem the fall content on this blog, then you don't know that I have fully embraced loving fall even more now that I live somewhere that fall is an actual season and not just a dream. A few weeks ago I went for a drive through Kenosha Pass and I was not disappointed. It was the most magical day, cold enough to wear a sweater, bright and sunny enough to really bounce the light off the trees. If you live in Denver, this drive is the easiest to get to. The road is wide, smooth and perfect if you've never really driven in the mountains like moi. Below are a few photos from the journey. Most of the leaves have fallen now but they are changing in Denver proper so fall is still in full effect. Where is your favorite place to go leaf spotting? - xoxo darling, Hayden

Quotes of the Week

Happy Monday! Still living off of the hype from this weekend. Shook that we beat OU in the best way possible. Yesterday I met some new people, tried some new things and just finished out the weekend no a high note. This week work should be fairly calm but I'm headed to Austin to meet my best friend! I am soooo excited. We've been looking forward to this since we last saw each other over the summer. What are y'all up to this week? - xoxo darling, Hayden

2018 Halloween Costumes

Halloween is 26 days away and this is one of the first years where I feel really in the spirit of the holiday. I blame it on Zoella and my bestie Serena for really convincing me to embrace this stuff. But I have plans to go to pumpkin patches, watch copious amounts of Disney Channel Original Halloween films and drink warm fall beverages while under a blanket in front of a fire place. Below are seven Halloween costumes I think you could make out of your closet, or with very little preparation. They come from my favorite pop culture moments. Some are throwbacks, others are new loves {lookin' at you Love Island}. Let me know if you are going to use any of these or what you are going to be for the spookiest of holidays - xoxo darling, Hayden
Love Island has been my latest obsession. I'm combining a one-piece that the ladies often wear with a fanny pack, because they have to have a place for their microphone and sneakers in case there is a challenge. The necklace is meant to be like the microphones they wear.
If you read this post, you'll know I've been obsessed with the Mamma Mia! costumes for some time now. Below is one of my favorites {that I could never pull off} that Lily James wears on the island — complete with a butterfly necklace and some sandals to complete the look. Get your boho on y'all!
One of my all time favorite movies from my childhood is The Parent Trap with Lindsey Lohan. I always wanted to go to camp like she did and have the most amazing time. From peanut butter and Oreos to popsicles at the mess hall, it looked like the most amazing time. Below is a little camp outfit that I think the twins could have rocked. Plus, if you like to be comfy on Halloween like I do, you'll love this one.

Instagram is full of influencers, including myself, that all seem to dress the same during the fall. This outfit you might already own if you read any fashion blogs. But it includes that classic flat brimmed hat, a sweater thing-y as I like to call them, riding boots and a big Madewell tote. I love it, and this is another comfy outfit. I would also recommend carrying around the biggest iPhone you can find and maybe a pumpkin to pose with?

Alexis Bledel's outfits in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants are some of my favorites. And if I had to choose a journey to go on, I think a hot guy in Greece would probably be the way to go. I mean I love Blake but soccer camp? Not for me. Use: Top, Skirt, Sneakers

One of my dad and I's favorite films, Bring it On is the most classic early 2000s film. And if you love to wear athleisure in your every day life, this is the Halloween costume for you! I actually own the skirt from Amazon that I ordered last year for this shoot and it is super comfy. Use: Sports Bra, Skirt, Sneakers

My favorite leading lady for so many reasons, Grace Kelly, embodies style and elegance and everything you could wish to be. I've never purchased anything from ModCloth but my mom loved it and the dress is just too cute. Plus, the color is called Pumpkin and I think that is perfect for the season. Use: Dress, Shoes

Mall Haul

Wait...Hayden...you went to the mall?

At least that's how I feel this conversation would go if you were one of my friends/relatives. If you know me, then you know I don't enjoy shopping and pretty much avoid doing it. However, it is cold in Colorado...yes, we all know this. And I do not have enough clothing options (and let's be real, I still don't) but I went to the mall the other day and purchased a few pieces to begin my winter wardrobe conversion. Below is a little video haul of the items I purchased. Let me know your favorite and if you have any recommendations for fall/winter clothing places that aren't insanely expensive, please share - xoxo darling, Hayden.

Week Re-Cap

This coffee shop reminds me of Stars Hollow so much.
Happy Wednesday lovelies! I'm spending the morning at the DMV getting a Colorado drivers license...I'm gonna be #official. This past week has been pretty awesome. I met a new friend for coffee at the cutest shop in Arvada {above} and I felt like I was in a Gilmore Girls episode. I totally plan on going back! Every day I've been enjoying the most beautiful sunrises, Texas has the best sunsets but dang, Colorado has the best sunrises. We watched the Texas game {and won again!!} and I got to try some new foods. At the moment I am loving living here and life is really good...except I need to make a dentist appointment because I totally have a cavity and I don't wanna. Buuuut, it'll be okay.
This week is OU Week, so we're wearing a lot of burnt orange and hanging out with friends. I'm excited. What are y'all up to? - xoxo darling, Hayden

Colorado has the most amazing sunrises.

Spicy chicken sandwich at Chopper's from Saturday.

The cutest coffee shop in Arvada.

Dinner at Illegal Pete's.

Dinner at ViewHouse with a new friend, Lindsey!

And then I am currently loving the scarf cardigan combo thing? I want one really bad because they look so soft! Also, I picked a few silk scarves/ascots because those go with everything! Let me know where are your favorite scarves from below - xoxo darling, Hayden.
