In movies girls have the prefect roommate. They are in their wedding, they go shopping with them, they talk to them everyday. So how do you find one of these magical people? Is it even possible?
To be honest, I am not sure. It took me months to find Devi {seriously}. Even after I found her I was super worried we wouldn't get along in person. I was terrified that we would end up hating each other and I would never want to spend time in my dorm room.
But sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and just go for it. So I did, I saw Devi's message on the UT Facebook page and I personal messaged her and bam we struck up a conversation. A month later she popped the question {that's the thing about looking for a roommate, it is a lot like speed dating}, and I said yes, on one condition, we had to meet before just to make sure we really could get along in person. So we stopped Facebook messaging {because Facebook can get annoying} and started texting...almost every day. It was so much fun! We learned so much about each other!
Then the night before orientation, two very nervous girls sat in the parking lot {with their parents wondering if they would ever get out of their cars} wondering if they were in fact making the right decision. But those two girls emerged, walked into The Shady Grove, and never looked back.
Devi is awesome, I am so happy I found her. We are similar {but not too similar}, we like Bollywood, we like trying new foods, and we are both very excited to hang out even more in the Fall.
Would it have been so bad to do random? Probably not, but I am so happy I scoured the UT Facebook page and found Devi.
So what is the take away?
Actually look. Don't give up if you can't find someone on the first try. I messaged countless people before I messaged Devi. Also, if it works it works, if not it's okay. Devi and I clicked, it was only a little awkward. Our conversations flowed unlike anyone else I had messaged. Try, that's all I ask, and let me know if you find your roommate in a similar way-xoxo darling, Hayden.
