Week Re-Cap

A sprinkle-covered Pandemic donuts.
Happy Wednesday! Tomorrow is my two year anniversary of living in Denver...and that feels insane! Especially because of this pandemic. But it's okay, life is starting to feel a bit more normal? I've started going out to dinners where I can sit outside and be as safe as possible and it feels so nice. I will never take a dinner with friends for advantage again. And while it is still firmly summer I'm starting to get the stirrings of excitement for fall! How has your week been? — xoxo darling, Hayden
Finally tried Spanky's Roadhouse — their $5 burger at happy hour is killer!
Rodizio Grill hosted me and it was delightful.
Had Acova for brunch and loved their patio!
Finally tried Cherry Hills Sushi Co. and it was good!

Haute Table Turns Eight!

Eight years. EIGHT FREAKING YEARS. This is wild. But at the same time not wild at all. I can't imagine my life without the blog, especially now that we are living in a global pandemic. Haute Table has been providing me with more joy than it has in a long time because it's incredibly hard to be creative when you barely leave your house. I also have had more time than ever before to focus on it and I'm enjoying that. I want to thank you all for reading/commenting/following the blog because without you...let's be honest I'd still be doing this, but it wouldn't be nearly as much fun.

Can you believe we've spent, almost, 3,000 days together? In the last year we've been through ups-and-downs, learned even more about one another and just had a blast. I'm in love with this year's birthday photos by the way. Every August these sunflowers bloom out near the Denver airport and I like to drag my friends on the hour long drive out there. We found an extra special field this year and I just adore how they came out!

And normally here I would talk about what I anticipate for the next year. But I can't really tell you...even more than normal...what I think the eighth year looks like at www.hautetableblog.com. I'm excited, don't get me wrong, but the pandemic has made me less excited to buy clothes & take outfit photos but I have enjoyed doing more link round-ups and I think this situation has made me more creative. I will say, I'm going home (to Florida) indefinitely in late November — mainly for the holidays — so December/vlogmas (if I decide to do it) will look really different this year. Please do not hesitate to reach out and let me know what you'd like to see on the blog this year. It is so helpful to be helpful to you!

As always I updated my about page & made a post talking about the most popular and my favorite blog posts from the last 365 days. In the photos I'm wearing this dress and these shoes. The sunglasses are old from Old Navy and the exact balloon is from here

See y'all tomorrow for the beginning of another successful year! Cheers darlings — xoxo, Hayden.

Eight Years, Part Two

Most Popular:

2020 with Paperless Post (74,911) — Can someone please explain to me how this post became my second most viewed ever?! Don't get me wrong, I love working with Paperless Post. Their stuff is amazing, I'm just flat out shocked. I hope to work with the brand again in the future and continue to bring y'all the content you really love...e-cards!

Fort Myers Restaurant Guide (256) — I love that my hometown's restaurant scene is a top post! It takes me forever to write restaurant guides...because I'm a perfectionist and I come up with way more restaurants than are actually feasible. But it worked and you liked it!

My Favorite Burnt Orange Clothes (199) — Good news on this one...the new version publishes tomorrow! I'm happy to be helping my fellow Longhorns find some burnt orange clothes that aren't a t-shirt from the Co-op with "Texas" in plain letters written across it! Plus, it's really fun to make these because I find new clothes for myself.

New Current Denver Dining Guide (194) — Denver's restaurant scene has been a joy to explore & there are many of these guides on HT. I thought my Austin guide was intimidating but all of my Denver dining guides are to another level. But I'm glad people are using them for their trips to the Mile High City!

Last of Summer Recipe: American Tiffin (117) — I had really been trying to do more recipes on the blog...then COVID hit but this sucker was ahhhmazing. Having never had a tiffin (or rocky road) before, I was scared it wouldn't work but it did and I 10/10 recommend making it this weekend.

My Favorites:

Ultimate Austin Guide — This was on my 61 in 1001 and an overall goal for the blog after leaving Austin. It took me like two years to write it because I had so much I wanted to say. But I'm really happy with how it turned out — I really went through and picked my all-time A-town faves that I tell people to do when they ask for ideas.

Juneteenth — I've always posted fairly political things on HT because it is a very essential part of my life. I was raised talking about politics, being involved in them, etc. so of course I would share that aspect with you. But, I've never talked about Juneteenth and I'm incredibly disappointed with myself about that. So, I've resolved to do so every year and I just think this particular post has great resources in it to continue your social justice work.

Eggnog Chai Snickerdoodle Cookie Recipe — We had a cookie exchange at work for the holiday season and I knew I wanted to go all out...so I did. And everyone loved them! I'm looking forward to December so I can make these again because eggnog is my favorite holiday item but combining it with chai & snickerdoodle, two of my other loves, makes it even better.

Favorite Hot Chocolates — Before COVID hit I was all about expanding the drink section of my recipes section...now I just do it all on TikTok...but this post was fun to make! Hot choc is a huge part of my life now that I live where it snows, so it was fun showing that. Plus, I actually staged the photos and I think they turned out great.

My Favorite Dress — I bought this dress at the flea market and when I saw it I fell in love. Hannah took the photos when she came into town and I had treated myself to a blow-out from DryBar so they turned out even better than normal. Ugh, that dress is just gorg!

Apple Picking Look — Usually when I do outfit photos I can barely find seven pictures that I like of myself — for whatever reason. But when my friends and I went down south to pick apples they took so many photos that I fell in love with. Maybe it's their skills, maybe it's the outfit, maybe it's because I was having one of the best days...I don't know but I love 'em.

Week Re-Cap

Went to the sunflower fields with Julia & Jesse.
Well it has been an interesting week! I had a pretty epic weekend — taking photos for tomorrow's blog birthday, eating brunch, etc. I ate a lot of good food — all outside and socially distanced, hung out with my friends and decided to break up (is it breaking up if you never defined a relationship?) with the guy I was seeing. So yeah...but it needed to happen & you know what? I'm actually really good. I started my second session of the leadership program at my work, which is awesome too. Tomorrow I have a very exciting sponsored dinner for my restaurant instagram (woot!) and this weekend I have no plans...so I'm planning on relaxing and reading a bunch! What are y'all up to? — xoxo darling, Hayden
Made pink champagne cupcakes to get back on the baking train.
Watched the last 8pm sunset until May 2021.
A frozen aperol spritz at Cabana x Bar Helix.
The tots were epic!
Trying out this new vodka from Switch.
Lauren and I had an epic brunch at Eat! in Broomfield.

Read & Watched

R E A D

Gone Gull — If you want a "get away from it all" book that takes place in the South, this one is for you. Meg (the main character in this series) is helping out her grandma at an art center in Virginia...it feels very Blue Ridge Parkway. Of course chaos ensues and a murder happens. She's on the case along with all of her relatives, the students and her doctor dad. I think I read it in less than two days because it was just fun.
The Deadly Dance — Agatha Raisin has decided to open her own detective agent in this mystery novel. She starts off looking for missing pets but ends up on the case of an attempted assassination of a rich woman's young daughter. There's a trip to Paris, lots of flirting and an attempted murder on Agatha herself! If you want to escape to the British countryside, choose this one.
French Chic Living — I love a good coffee table book and I would say this one is up there. I loved the photos but I will say the author is a bit full of herself...so read it with that in mind. I will say, I loved the cleaning advice section and just seeing what French country houses look like.
Three Hours in Paris — Set during the day that Hitler visited Paris (he only went once for a matter of hours) this thriller follows the story of an American woman sniper. She's running through the various arrondissements, hiding out and you're left wondering if she'll make it out in the last few pages of the book. It kept me on the edge of my seat and made me want to go to Paris at the same time.
Red, White & Royal Blue — I LOVED THIS BOOK. First, the main character is the First Son of the first female president and they are from Texas. His older sister got a journalism degree from Texas (uhm hello me) and he hates the son of the royal family. But they are thrown together into a friendship that blooms into true love in one of the best enemies to lovers I've ever read. Emails and texts are exchanged throughout the book between the two and they might get ya a bit hot and bothered.
Women's Libation! — Another feminist cocktail book, I didn't love this one as much as Free the Tipple. The illustrations are amazing but I found the cocktails a bit more complex. I will say I liked that the author made cocktails out of feminist events not just women in this one.

W A T C H E D

The Invisible Man — I really liked this retelling of a story that has been told a bunch. It's suspenseful, thrilling and has an epic twist at the end that I did not see coming.
Normal People — Oh please tell me you've watched this cult favorite. It was so beautiful and made me want to book a flight to Ireland. I don't want the relationship the two main characters have because it is toxic but I loved the raw emotion that they portrayed. We've all been in the situations they were in and handled them badly. The show just makes you feel better about your choices.
Mystery Road & Goldstone — These are gritty mystery movies set in the Australian Outback. I learned a lot about the relations between Aboriginals and the white settlers throughout them but they also have great shootouts if you like that kind of thing.
Perry Mason — I really liked the first season of this HBO remake. It covers how Perry Mason became himself (a lawyer) and it is gritty. A baby is murdered and left on Angels Flight and the mother is suspected of his death. There's also a crazy religious cult and added race tensions.
13th — By now you should have watched this documentary about our horrifying criminal justice system.
The Trip to Greece — My dad and I love these movies with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. It's set in beautiful restaurants, they eat gorgeous food and they do celebrity impressions that will have your sides hurting.
Teenage Bounty Hunters — Omg I weirdly loved this Netflix series. It got me! Set in Georgia (they mention every Southern chain you could think of) two religious schoolgirls end up becoming bond enforcement agents. But what they don't know is they'll uncover a huge family secret along the way.

Since so many of us are working from home...and we've been doing so for almost six months, I thought it was time to round up some more exciting desk supplies to brighten your days. From candles to a coffee rambler that will keep your coffee piping hot and a bunch of notebooks for your WFH meetings, there's something for ya! — xoxo darling, Hayden

Pride & Prejudice (2005) Inspiration

I've always been obsessed with the 2005 Pride & Prejudice. Something about the gloomy yet bright atmosphere of the English countryside and the love between Darcy and Lizzie...without any touching...is so breathtaking. I watch the movie when I'm sad, angry, happy, upset, excited — truly any emotion pairs with this film. As I'm also in intense wanderlust I decided to compile some photos of the English countryside because I desperately want to visit. Have y'all seen the movie? Do you love it too? — xoxo darling, Hayden.

Week Re-Cap

Had the best weekend with these ladies.
Oh y'all I had the best week. Some of us went to Grand Lake/Granby for a socially-distanced girl's trip and it was soooo nice. I didn't realize how much I needed to get out of the city and onto the water. We ate too much ice cream, had a really good brunch and just enjoyed each other's company. Anyway, enjoy too many photos of the beautiful scenery Colorado provides — xoxo darling, Hayden.
