Tiff's Treats

Tiff's Treats is an amazing company that does amazing things in Texas. My mama called in an order for cookies and they delivered it right to my dorm. It was so sweet, the cookies were warm and there was milk! It was such a surprise, but a really nice one, and it brightened my day! Check it out & I would highly suggest sending something like this to your kid in college parents!

The Best Things Come In Small Packages

Who was it that said that the best things come in small packages? Because that person was incredibly bright. My mama was in Chicago last week and she and I were joking about what I needed from Chicago. My suggestions were a large pizza from UNO and Fannie May chocolate.
The story behind my love affair with Fannie May is that my Mimi {grandma} used to take me to the Fannie May store in Fort Myers every December and we would make a big box of chocolates for the family for Christmas. It was so much fun and she would always get me some chocolate while we were there. During Christmas time my favorite flavor is Eggnog, but overall I love the Trinidads. They are delicious!
So my mama surprised me with a small box of my favorites in the mail. I was so happy when I got them, and they taste just like I remember.
Sadly, most of the Fannie May stores have closed, but there are still some in Chicago. Have you ever had them?

College Food {1}

I'm starting a new series! Yay for that!
This will be all about those little microwavable meals we are forced to buy in college. I will be reviewing one at a time with things like how it tastes and if it worth how much it costs, so make sure to keep checking back!

Pineapples:

I will be completely honest when I say I had never had General Tso's Chicken before I ate this Tai Pei version, so I might be completely incorrect in my opinions about how it tastes. I was in the mood for Chinese food, my favorite is Kung Pao but they did not have that, and Tso's said spicy so I bought it...and I was pleasantly surprised. Yes it is a little sweet, but the aftertaste is quite spicy. The rice looks like it was frozen and then cooked in a microwave but it tastes good and the vegetables were fresh {both in looks and taste}. The chicken might have been the weakest component just because there was not enough and the breading was a little soggy after the 10 minute microwave time {my dorm microwave is terrible}. PRO TIP: Put this on a plate when you microwave it, I know it says to do it in the container, but it is not conducive to cooking all the way through in that container, lay it out and it cooks much faster!

Week Re-Cap

It has been another crazy week in the college life! I had my first test on Monday and I think it went okay. Today I am attending a yoga workshop and tonight I am volunteering at the admissions building and calling prospective students. The next few days hold new adventures and photoshoots both for HT & District. Check out some images from my week below-xoxo darling, Hayden

Friday Night Lights {Off}

It's funny, in high school I would have about three things to look forward a week...in college I have about three things to look forward to a day! My friends and I decided that most Fridays we are going to have a movie night, hence the "Friday Night Lights {Off}" puny title. I saw this post on Cupcakes and Cashmere, and I could not help but recreate it here. I love the idea! So below is our first selection: She's The Man.

In She's The Man they are always eating at Cesario's Pizza, so we got pizza from Austin's Pizza.

On My Desk

Happy Friday Y'all! I am so excited for this weekend! Tonight I am having a movie night with my girls, then tomorrow we are headed to Gordough's, vintage shopping, SoCo, Barton Springs, and then maybe a party. Devi has also agreed to be blog photographer for upcoming outfit posts so I promise I will start working on more of those. It is so exciting being in a new place, not to mention a city, where there are so many options of where we can take photos. Expect some from this weekend to be up next week! In the meantime, what are you up to? -xoxo darling, Hayden

Gone To Texas

If you will forgive me for this, but I think my school is absolutely amazing. They do such awesome stuff and Gone To Texas is just one of them. We all got together with our colleges, had a party, and then went down to the Tower and watched it light up orange, it was magical and a perfect way to start my next four years. Sick Days

You know that feeling you get, right before you're about to get sick? You just know the cold is coming for you and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Yeah, that was me five days ago. And let me tell you, getting sick in college is no fun {not that getting sick is ever fun}. Here are my tips for getting through the tough time:

  1. Emergen-C: This stuff will save your life. When I was younger, I hated the taste of it and had to calm my gag reflex to get it down. But it would amaze you what reading a Vogue article will do for you...I read that fashionistas everywhere used it when they were flying around the world for shoots and fashion week. Needless to say, I know drink the orange drink with happiness. I would suggest one to two Emergen-C drinks a day AS SOON AS YOU START TO FEEL SICK!!!! Then every day you are sick take some. This stuff is also great to knock back a few days before you will be traveling and then while you travel. I swear this stuff got be feeling better in two days.
  2. Alka Seltzer Plus Day & Night: I have no idea if this actually works or if it is Placebo, but it doesn't matter. I took each set, one during the day, one at night, and I felt better each time. I prefer Alka Seltzer, but basically anything where you get both day and night is great because sleeping is SUPER important when you are a college student!
  3. Orange Juice: This kind of goes along with Emergen-C, but you should be drinking both! Because you are in college and you need to get better ASAP! My roomie, the lovely Devi, made me go to HEB the day I made it official I was sick and I bought a half gallon of orange juice and I swear it did wonders!
  4. Netflix: Let me tell you, I was super lucky to have my two worst days on the weekend, but still Netflix is perfect. You need to get your rest, but you might not be able to sleep because you properly took the "Day" medicine, so you can lie down and watch movies or a new TV show. Your body will thank you.
  5. Eye Mask: I did not have this problem because the wonderful roomie is exactly that, wonderful, but if your roommate does need to have a light on then you can throw on an eye mask and sleep.

Week Re-Cap

My first time at Jamba Juice was wonderful,
mainly because the guy gave me a large!

The Food Diaries: Gourdoughs Speciality Doughnuts

After I decided to attend UT, I got an Instagram follower I was not expecting, Gourdough's Doughnuts. It was so random, but I followed them back and once I got to Austin I heard nothing but how amazing Gordough's was/is.

So I finally broke down and tried them. I visited the "food truck" version, actually an airstream trailer.

I had the Mama's Cake donut and let me tell you, it was a magical experience in my mouth. The icing was mouth watering. The chocolate part actually tasted like real brownie batter, something I love. And the cake donut was just firm enough to be edible, but it melted once it was in my mouth. The only real problem I had with this donut was that it was incredibly messy, I was eating it on a black-top so the icing melted into a gooey pile fairly quickly...but that was fine because I still ate it!

My other companion had the Miss Shortcake donut. She said it was "...warm, and soft in the middle but with a nice crust on the outside. The strawberries were perfectly ripe and sweet. However, the cream cheese icing was a weak point, there was not enough cream cheese flavor. Overall, it was pure sin."

All parties involved believe you should share a donut as they are huge and could feed three people.
Pineapples {out of 4}:

Our Milkshakes Bring All The Boys To The Yard {Roomie Project}

So my roommate, Devi, and I have become amazing friends! We have a cork board outside our room and we were able to decorate. One day we were coming out of our room talking about it, and I mentioned how we have an all girls floor and how it is not like "...my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard." Devi thought it was hysterical as did I, so we decided to make our cork board say just that, in irony and because the song is hysterical. Our hope is that whenever someone passes our door it brightens their day. I know that when I'm having a bad day the door makes me laugh. Below is a photo and a link to the music video. What do you think? -xoxo darling, Hayden
P.S. The random picture of Iggy is because we love her, not because she has something to do with the milkshakes...although I am sure she would like our milkshakes.

The Amazing Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

I am going through a total Beyonce faze...or am I ever really not in a Queen B faze???
Well one of my favorite songs is ***Flawless feat. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I had no idea who Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was, but her speech in the middle of ***Flawless inspired me, so I looked her up.
Below is her amazing TED Talk, which Beyonce took parts of. This video is inspiring and amazing and everything I feel about being a feminist. I never openly called myself a feminist before I saw this video, but she inspired me. There are so many gender conflicts in this world and her talk is phenomenal. She shares her own stories, stories of her friends, and her opinion of what is wrong with Nigeria, and more broadly the world.
If you are all about that "girl power" check out the video below, it is truly amazing.

Saturday Inspiration

Currently going through a pom-pom obsession.

Maybe for HT's third birthday?

Kind of missing the water right now...

I've always been in love with splatter paint.
I want floor length skirts like this to be in style NOW.

The top is so pretty!

PomPoms + Pineapples=Magic
Pretty combo!

Birthday Cake Surprises

For the BFFL's birthday Devi & I thought it would be nice to bake a cake. Because in college you are poor, and also going out of your way to bake a cake in very sketchy ovens says you really like the person...trust me. The cake actually turned out amazing & it is sitting on Devi & I's microwave because Barbara spends more time in our room, I think, than she does her own. It is super delish! Check out the photos below-xoxo darling, Hayden.

Summer in Review

It is September and for me that always signals fall...because of football. I cannot believe how quickly my summer went by, but it did and now I am SO ready for boots and sweaters and scarves. Aren't you? Below is a post idea that I got from the wonderful stripes & peonies.
This summer I...
-got my IB diploma
-traveled to three different countries
-mooved into college
-Dropped out of sorority rush
-Made new friends
-Started classes @ UT
-Visited a new state
-Went to my first frat party
-Created a 101 in 1001 list
-Went back to Disney World
-Won a Liebster Award
-Celebrated HT's second birthday
What did you do this summer?

Fashion Week

I never blog about Fashion Week because it is way too hectic and I am just trying to enjoy my alone time watching the shows, but I stumbled across these videos on stripes & peonies and I could not stop laughing. I know that the women {and men, s/o to one of my favors Derek Blasberg} of Fashion Week are saying these very things. Enjoy-xoxo darling, Hayden!

Week Re-Cap

As I sit in my cubicle located in the Tower, listening to Beyonce, I am amazed at how happy college is making me. There are so many opportunities, both in the class and outside of it. I have been laughing harder than I did my entire senior year, I think. I love my classes {even those 8ams} and I am enjoying working out. I never though I would say those words, but I really do! Check out some shots from the previous week below-xoxo darling, Hayden.

Had an awesome time visiting all of the student orgs
 @ Party On The Plaza!

I feel like this is the epitome of college: stuff scattered on the floor, casual clothes, MacBooks, backpacks strewn on the bed, and laughing with your best friends.

Hayden's Late VMA Faves

So I do realize that the VMA's happened quite some time ago, but that isn't going to stop me from having some fun. I went and watched the award show On Demand on MTV's website and I was in a joyous moment. Everyone did so well, and then Beyonce came on stage and I haven't stopped crying...but really though...Here are some of my favorite, or not so favorite, looks...and a link to Queen B's performance {by the way, in love with that leotard!}. -xoxo darling, Hayden
So you're going to hate me, but I really do not like this dress on Bey.
I think it covers up way to much and it kind of engulfs her.
I love this! Those pants are on my wish list!
Love the dress, it is so classy. BUT I HATE THE HAIR.
I will never understand the slicked back look!
The blazer seems too big on her, but those shoes are on point!
A very strange choice for T-Swift...I miss her preppiness, but I love her hair!
STAHP trying to be Brit + Justin circa 2001, you will never be that cool.
Now THIS is a Beyonce dress!
In love with Jesse J's top/dress thing! Nicki handled the wardrobe malfunction with class.
LOVED THIS! Channel those flappers T-Swift!
