The Food Diaries: Gourdoughs Speciality Doughnuts

After I decided to attend UT, I got an Instagram follower I was not expecting, Gourdough's Doughnuts. It was so random, but I followed them back and once I got to Austin I heard nothing but how amazing Gordough's was/is.
So I finally broke down and tried them. I visited the "food truck" version, actually an airstream trailer.

I had the Mama's Cake donut and let me tell you, it was a magical experience in my mouth. The icing was mouth watering. The chocolate part actually tasted like real brownie batter, something I love. And the cake donut was just firm enough to be edible, but it melted once it was in my mouth. The only real problem I had with this donut was that it was incredibly messy, I was eating it on a black-top so the icing melted into a gooey pile fairly quickly...but that was fine because I still ate it!
My other companion had the Miss Shortcake donut. She said it was "...warm, and soft in the middle but with a nice crust on the outside. The strawberries were perfectly ripe and sweet. However, the cream cheese icing was a weak point, there was not enough cream cheese flavor. Overall, it was pure sin."
All parties involved believe you should share a donut as they are huge and could feed three people.
