Martin Luther King Jr. Day

As the chief spokesman for nonviolent civic action, Martin Luther King Jr. should be an example to us all. Especially in wake of the Capitol terrorism that occurred two weeks ago. I am not suggesting we don't be violent — clearly time has shown that sometimes violence is the answer (I give you the Boston Tea Party, British women blowing up post boxes & the Stonewall Uprising). But simply showing up and doing the work, sitting at a lunch counter in 1960 or standing by your friends as a person they know they can lean on in a protest, that's what we should be doing. Recognizing your white privilege (me included) is difficult, but it must be done so we can better serve the cause at hand. Everyone in our country has a right to human rights (and more than that!!). So, on this MLK Jr. Day, I ask you to consider donating to Know Your Rights Camp and Fair Fight. These organizations are working to dismantle oppression through education, something we should all support. Hope y'all enjoy your day off but remember this day isn't about mattress sales, it's about educating yourself on the causes at hand. We must do more to make our country a better place for all — xoxo darling, Hayden.
