Some Thoughts

I attended a lecture recently about Lady Bird Johnson {surprise, surprise} and the lecturer told a story about the woman I am heavily influenced by. Apparently, when Lady Bird was going around, campaigning for her husband she twisted her ankle. Instead of halting the tour or taking a day off she went out and stood for about three hours on her twisted ankle to shake hands and talk to citizens in a small town. She then attended a dinner where she still had to be on. She wouldn't allow anyone to coddle her and she wouldn't let them tell the president. As soon as they got back on the plane she elevated her ankle, put some ice on it and kept going.

This story got me thinking, I am so guilty of complaining about things that I shouldn't complain about. And my friends, colleagues, co-workers, bosses, etc. do this as well. As a society I think we sometimes try to one-up each other on how much we can complain about our lives. But that's kind of unhealthy isn't it? Lady Bird stood on her hurt ankle in heels just so that the people would get to speak with her, she sucked it up and did something for other people instead of being selfish for herself. I am amazed regularly when learning about Lady Bird but this just really had me feeling some type of way.

I think I need to work harder to not be as selfish with my time and even more than that just not complain about my life. I am so fortunate to be incredibly privileged, I have no idea what other people are going through and because of that I do not need to complain about an assignment that I waited the last minute to do, etc.

What do you think? -xoxo darling, Hayden
