The FOMO Factory and My Thoughts on Instagram Experiences

Experiential places are such an interesting concept. Totally built for the Millennial and Gen Z age groups, these pop-up spots have sprouted across the country. I'm sure some existed before Museum of Ice Cream, but that seems to be the most well known concept. And they're slightly controversial. which I understand to an extent. Why would you pay money to go through rooms and take staged photos for your social media? But I think this takes away from the most basic idea of the whole idea - fun. Some people actually enjoy taking photos, even love it. I completely fall into that category, I love Pinterest and different colors and taking photos. And there is nothing wrong with that, I enjoy it, it's my life.

As a late Gen Z (I do not identify as a Millennial), my brand is incredibly important to me. Just like all of the other's in this grouping. And stuff like the FOMO Factory help us along with our brands. We put a very specific image out to the public. And yes, this can be confused with being conceited or only having surface level intentions, but why should looking good or having an aesthetic be bad?

At the end of the day, I am all for the Instagram Experience. I think you shouldn't knock it until you try it and if it isn't for you that's totally fine. But Marcus and I visited one back in November and had an absolute blast. We were running from room to room coming up with poses, singing along to the playlist and laughing away. It was the perfect rainy Sunday morning activity for two best friends. We bonded over our different ideas, concepts and editing techniques.

Basically, don't take it too seriously and just have fun. That's my recommendation with stuff like this; don't let people judge you and do what you want - xoxo darling, Hayden.

P.S. Now enjoy far too many photos of me at the pop-up.
P.P.S. If you live in Austin, the FOMO Factory has been extended until late January.
