Resolutions in Review

Last year, like normal, I made some resolutions. Let's see how your girl did:

1. Be More Spontaneous // I think this was the goal I accomplished throughout the year. When I went to London I would randomly get on a bus and just see where it took me. Being in a city like that helped me to understand that you don't have to have everyday planned -- and most days I didn't. I loved traveling like that because I hadn't done it before. I also took a little bit of a step back with my spirit organization in the fall semester in order to better balance my life. It helped me to do more outside of clubs and classes which is something I wouldn't have considered in the past. Because of this goal, I took more trips {San Antonio, Rhode Island/Boston, Dallas, etc.}. And I got to experience things like: throwing my first party in my apartment, getting pied in the face for charity, standing for 12 hours {again, for charity} and my first 5K {and guess what? I walked it!}. I am proud of myself for being a little more spontaneous this year and I look forward to continuing it in 2017.
2. Explore the World More // Uhm...yeah I think we could say I did this. I started off the year in Florida, then flew back to Texas where I took roadtrips to San Antonio, Luckenbach, then flew to Boston & Rhode Island for a weekend, went home for spring break, then I studied abrod in FREAKING London, traveled to Scotland and Paris, came back to Texas, went to Gruene and the Texas Hill Country, took a weekend getaway to Dallas, and drove through West Texas to Lubbock, then I ended the year in North Carolina. If that doesn't say explore the world more I don't know what does... But in all seriousness doing all of this traveling helped me expand my horizons even more than in the past. And those months I spent in London helped me learn about so many different cultures. I absolutely loved my time abroad and look forward to the next time I can go.
3. Work Harder // This went...okay. Actually, no it didn't. It went great in some areas. I was able to get a 4.0 in both of my journalism classes {remember Botanic} but I had to drop a class and another one didn't go exactly as planned. Haute Table did better this semester but I still think it can improve and I really took a step back on District because it isn't where I want it to be. I think this semester really showed me that stuff like that is okay. I stress myself out a lot about the fact that District hasn't published in a year, but you know what? That is okay. Other stuff is going great in life -- I am interning at one of my dream magazines (Texas Monthly) in the spring, I am incredibly proud of where I am at in my journalism work, and I got to spend my best friend's last semester of college with her. "Work Harder" is always going to be a goal of mine but I am not stressing myself out over the little things. But, I will warn y'all now, I have a rough class schedule coming up so we shall see how HT does.
4.  Be Okay with Confrontation // I can't tell you about this one a whole lot...because I still HATE confrontation. It is so easy to get upset in certain situations and my anger got the best of me a few situations this past year. However, I will say that I have been better about confronting people to take on more so that not everything is falling on my shoulders. And those people have been doing wonderful.
5. Spend More Time on Myself // I think I accomplished this most in the summer because I focused on making myself happy in London. After a few weeks there I realized I didn't have the same goals as a lot of my friends in the program. So I just decided I was going to do what I wanted to do and I ended up spending some really productive time with myself. It. was. great. I still need to take breaks from my phone, drink more tea, and be a little more zen but I think this goal is getting there.
Overall, 2016 has not been my favorite year. I don't think I accomplished my goals in the same way I did last year. I know most people just want 2016 to end and...I kind of feel the same way. I am excited for 2017 and I am trying not to put too much hope into next year but I have a feeling it will go better. Check back into HT tomorrow for a more positive outlook on 2016-xoxo darling, Hayden.

Week Re-Cap

I am officially back in FLA after a wonderful week in North Carolina. I am feeling refreshed and ready to begin 2017 (have y'all seen the BuzzFeed count down?). We did a lot of hiking and a lot of eating. We even won a trivia game at a Boone brewery! On the way back I read one of the funniest books I have read in a long time, Best. State. Ever. by Dave Barry. I would highly recomend if you are a Floridian or if you have ever been to Florida, or if you have ever said something unkind about Florida. It had my family and I in stiches the entire time.
This week I am doing some more relaxing, ready to begin anew in 2017 and traveling to the Orange Bowl. What are y'all up to? -xoxo darling, Hayden

 I conquered Elk Knob for the third time!

 It was the first time I hiked it when the sky was clear,
 the views were beautiful.

 The fam bam participated in trivia night at Lost Province Brewing Co.

The family knows their Christmas movies...

 Everytime we visit NC we stop at the Cascades.

Of course we had to take a trip to Linville Falls.

 In case you missed it, our family holiday card {via}.

The Varsity was the perfect way to end our trip, we always love visiting the Athens (GA) location to get an FO (frosted orange that is like a creamy, less sugar-y orange julius) {via}.

scarf but I put alternatives above
that are just as good!}

Week Re-Cap

It's only four days until Christmas {how did this happen so quickly?}! This week started at the beach and has ended in the cold of North Carolina but I wouldn't have it any other way. We are in NC until the 26th so we have been doing some hiking, shopping, and lots of eating. I have been coming to this part of Western North Carolina since I was a baby {my mom literally climbed Grandfather Mountain when she was pregnant} so if you are ever looking for ideas on things to do, shoot me an email because I have tons of ideas! Check out the photos below-xoxo darling, Hayden.

 A quick trip to the beach one afternoon.

I am not over the beauty of that water & those trees.

The community college in FM got an amazing basketball
arena so we went to their game.

 Some necessary roadtrip candy.

 It finally felt like fall in Kennesaw Mountain, GA.

 Y'all. I have seen so many deer this week.

 After reading this article, I made the fam stop for dinner at Greenwood's in Roswell, GA {mainly for the pie}. Update: It was pretty phenomenal.

 Our cabin for the week!

A sneakpeak of tomorrow's post. {via}

 A Monday morning hike at Moses Cone.

 You can just barely see Blowing Rock in the distance.

 It's below freezing during the night
so dew freezes on the plants.

 Cook Out has the BEST milkshakes.

 A view of the Linville Gorge.

Cliffs of Dover Throwback

I was recently looking through my folders from my summer in London for my journalism portfolio site {check it out here}, and I came across these photos that I intended to put on HT but never did! I completely forgot about them! But I am kind of obsessed with 'em so here they are in all their glory (and they are making me reminisce about the warm weather!)-xoxo darling, Hayden.

   P.S. The Cliffs of Dover were one of the highlights of my study abroad this summer. I would highly encourage you visiting. Both Hannah and I came away from it with an amazing, beautiful experience. If you want any information on the Cliffs, feel free to email me!

I couldn't find my exact top but I love these tops
so I included multiple above.

I am about to start my journey to North Carolina and I am so so so excited! I love this part of NC & I haven't been since senior year of high school.

Fall Formals

Because I am a little over-involved at school I was able to attend two formals this semester, and both on the same day! That meant only one dress {which I am secretly thankful for}. I bought mine on sale at Dillards in Austin but I have attatched it {and some of my other formal/cocktail dresses below}.
One of the formals was at the Iron Cactus on 6th Street and the other was at the Westin Hotel on 5th Street. My shoes started to kill me after a while because I never where heels/I hadn't worn these since prom my junior year of high school!
Have y'all had any formals/or dances lately? If so what did you wear? -xoxo darling, Hayden

We won best family, which was crazy because we are
always nominated but never win!

Week Re-Cap

This "Week Re-Cap" is actually {pretty much} still re-capping the week previous to it but there are a few shots from this week too. Ever since I flew home on Wednesday I have really been taking it easy {which has been so nice}. I have been going to bed at 10-11pm and that has done wonders! Plus I have been eating at all of my favorite Fort Myers restaurants and doing a little shopping!
This re-cap has a lot of photos from Hannah's graduation that I hadn't edited in time for last week's, check it out-xoxo darling, Hayden.

I finally got to meet Hannah's nephew, Baby Hank,
who is the cutest baby ever.

I only cried twice that day!

Hannah's incredibly sweet best friends who go to LSU!

 I made Hannah stand in the rain for this photo because I liked the background better...{via}

 How cute were her graduation cookies?!

 I have so many photos of Hank, it isn't even funny.

 Some of y'all may know about Hannah and I's birthday cake competition (here & here)
{basically we try to out-do each other's over-the-top-ness every year}
 & I really think I killed it.

 Hannah & I's last meal in Austin together for a long time was Via 313.

A final tower picture before I flew home {via}.

A few days after I flew home I went on a pirate cruise...it was interesting to say the least.

Lunch at Fancy's Cafe, one of my favorite restaurants in FM!

Botanic Magazine

Hey darlings! So instead of the regularly scheduled "Articles I'm Reading" I am sharing a project I have been working on all semester with y'all today!
I took a course entitled "Making Magazines" and we literally made a magazine. Ours is Botanic, a beautiful, sustainable guide for living in Austin (/living in general) for millenials. Please check it out below, I am incredibly proud of it. I did all of the design on it & there was very little sleep because of it but it's done! Let me know what you think-xoxo darling, Hayden.
